General Membership

The Asheville Racing Pigeon Club functions as a race-oriented organization with activities and basic operation centering on the competitive racing of homing pigeons. Membership to the club is therefore reserved to those pigeon enthusiasts whose primary interest in the hobby is breeding and flying the Racing Homer pigeon for competitive purposes. There is no discrimination in membership except for conduct, and no racing pigeon fancier will be denied membership, the right to hold any office or position or any benefit otherwise afforded to members on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin or religion.

Prospective members to the organization should review the club’s Constitution and Bylaws so as to become familiar with membership responsibility and requirement. Incoming members shall gain acceptance to the organization during a scheduled business meeting and must attain a vote of approval by a minimum of two-thirds of the members present.

All members of the Asheville Racing Pigeon Club agree to be bound to all rules, policies, or procedures of the club as a condition to membership; and to abide by any and all decisions or determinations of the organization.

Members of the Asheville Racing Pigeon Club shall be dues-paid members in good standing with any affiliated organization that is in conjunction with the club for that purpose, and shall further be bound by the existing rules of that body. The club is currently affiliated with the American Racing Pigeon Union and the Piedmont Racing Pigeon Combine.

Junior Membership

The club shall encourage and promote active participation among interested youth to enhance the hobby's growth and to protect its future being. Any fancier who has not reached his or her 18th birthday by April 15th of any calendar year shall be granted “Junior Membership” status. Junior Members shall be treated equally and fairly with regard to any club-related activity.

The club shall grant full membership to Junior Members at no monetary obligation and shall withdraw from its treasury the required fee to further grant any Junior Member dues-paid status with an affiliated organization.

To compete independently in sanctioned races, a Junior Member will be subject to all existing conditions set forth by governing bodies, including both the club and any affiliated combine or union.

Junior Members are not eligible to hold any elective office, nor may they serve on any appointed committee. The Junior Member may, however, assist committee members if deemed appropriate and provided that they operate under the direct supervision and guidance of the committee; thus affording them insight on the mechanics of government and opportunity to contribute to the welfare of the organization.

Club Officers

The elected officers of the Asheville Racing Pigeon Club consist of President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Race Secretary, all of who shall be elected for a term of one year.

The PRESIDENT is the chief executive officer that presides at all meetings and exercises the basic functions usually belonging to the presiding officer of a deliberate body. The President governs over all club-related activity and official committees, overseeing and assisting their activity as needed; and is responsible for the appointment or approval of special committees should a need arise.

The VICE-PRESIDENT shall in the absence of the President perform the duties of that office. The Vice-President is the automatic chair of the Grievance Committee and is responsible for the selection of its sitting members.

The SECRETARY-TREASURER maintains records for the organization, controls all monies, conducts the general correspondence for the club, distributes club documents to the membership, and assigns and issues identification bands. The Secretary-Treasurer has custody of all financial records, maintains all monetary accounts, is responsible for the collection of dues and debts owed to the organization, and makes payment of all bills incurred by the club. The Secretary-Treasurer is the automatic chair of the Public Relations Committee and responsible for the selection of its sitting members.

The RACE SECRETARY is responsible for overseeing and governing all race-related activity. He is responsible for obtaining the services of an approved conveyor/liberator and making arrangements with said party to ensure that the race schedule is effectively administered. He ensures integrity of countermarking birds intended for competition, and attends to all details of racing. He is responsible for the recording of all entries of each member for each race and the calculation of all race results. The Race Secretary is the automatic chair of the Race Committee and responsible for the selection of its sitting members.
